Here is my latest animation test presented for critique. It builds on the issues and lessons learnt from my last animation (see this thread). These being turning objects in space and giving life to an inanimate object. I also wanted to see if I could animate in perspective and followed Richard Williams' advice in his Animator's Survival Kit.

As I say in the title of this thread, it features the most difficult drawing ever which is the extreme where the box turns to look over his right shoulder. I got the idea to do this animation test from following this page of the Karmatoons drawing tutorials and finding it so difficult to draw that twisted box from memory.

So I'm looking forward to your comments and critiques.

Cheers,
Claire.

I strongly suggest that when you make an animation of this type, an animation without any audio to accompany such as dialogue or music, that you create a beat for the piece. Using a metronome (if you don't own one you can use this one http://www.metronomeonline.com/) and find the beat you want for your scene. Break it down to beats per 24frames for the xsheet and mark where the beats fall.
In your case the beat might the the jump beat. Once this is established and the xsheets filled in with where the beat falls you can decide where to put what movements. Combine some movements on double and triple beats (pauses) and some on half beats for variety but always try to follow the beat. It will give a professional quality and 'feeling' to the whole animation that will immediately improve it without touching any drawings.
Remember in the xsheet the accent in the movement (you have to find where that is, from your timing charts and visually) goes a few frames before the actual beat position in the xsheet. In the Illusion Of Life this is more clearly explained.
Do this and let's see if we 'feel' a rythm in your aniamtion with the next test.
Technically the animation is good, only the looks need more time. But let's see the next version timed better before going on.

:)

Thanks Chris, good advice, timing is giving me the most trouble in my animations and it obviously shows, I'll have a go at re-timing it to a beat and I'll post the results.
